When biking around downtown, I saw the tip of the dome of the Palace of Fine Arts and decided to get a closer look.
Zumwalt Meadow at Kings Canyon NP
The peaceful Zumwalt Meadow is at the end of the road to Kings Canyon.
Kings River
Kings River runs along much of the road to the bottom of Kings Canyon.
Montara State Beach
Just lazin’ around at Montara State Beach in San Mateo County.
Marin County Curves
Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach in Marin County offers some beautiful views and scary curves. This car ride brought back memories of my 1997 bicycle ride on this road.
Windy Vantage Point
The wind was so strong at this Marin County vantage point I could barely stand in place.
Tuolumne Meadows
This is a shot from this morning’s hike at Tuolumne Meadows. Tuolumne Meadows is part of Yosemite National Park. It’s north of Yosemite Valley and at a higher altitude. After that I headed out for the Bay Area and safely reached my friends’ place. Time to rest.
Yosemite Valley
After seeing all the iconic pictures of Yosemite Valley, being there took it to a whole new level. It’s everything it’s cracked up to be and more. I stayed a few days, exploring the valley on my Brompton foldable bicycle. Here are 12 of the photos I captured during the trip.
Abstract Figurative Art
I thought I would try my hand at a few abstract figurative works. Here is one I painted. It’s 16 x 20 oil on archival art board. I became interested in abstractive figurative art after seeing the works of Kathy Jones and Jylian Gustlin. Click more to see a larger version of the painting.
Twelve by Twelve
I know I haven’t posted any paintings in a while, but I have been busy working on a series of head and shoulder portraits in oil, all 12 x 12. This is a wonderful size for portraits…
A 12 by 12 portrait is small enough to take down from the wall or mantle and hold in your hands for viewing. It’s large enough to get a about a 75% size head and a still maintain a more or less classical composition. Because the format is square, a group of paintings in this size can make a really appealing arrangement on the wall, and can be arranged in a number of different ways. Yet, a portrait this size will not dominate even a small room.
Here are a few I have painted, with a close-up of one.
