This is Alex Hershaft, co-founder of the Animal Rights movement in the US, right after being presented the lifetime achievement award at AR Conference in LA. He is 80 years old, and of course, vegan.

DxE Action in Oakland
A couple of days ago I joined Direction Action Everywhere for a protest outside a Chipotle Restaurant in Oakland. Chipotle spends millions to promote an image of caring about the animals they are killing. They are taking advantage of people’s sympathy toward animals by giving the impression that their products are humane. See this Salon article for more details.

After leaving WorldFest in Los Angeles, I decided to experience California’s central coast on the way to the Bay Area, instead of taking the interstate. Good choice. Santa Barbara, Morro Bay, Big Sur, and Monterey were all stunning beautiful. This picture is near San Simeon.

Zion National Park Drive Thru Video
It was getting dark as I approached Zion National Park yesterday, so I found a little side road that dead-ended into an apparent campsite, about 500 yards off highway 9 — about 4 miles from the eastern park entrance. There was virtually no light pollution, and I think I saw more stars than I have ever seen.
