Christopher’s Kitchen is a 100% vegan restaurant in Palm Springs Gardens. I had the Spicy Mexican Warm Grain Bowl with quinoa, black beans w/ cumin & peppers, jalapeños, chopped romaine, cabbage, tortilla chips, hot sauce, and , guacamole and salsa on the side It was good – real good.

Around Palm Beaches
After Jacob’s Garage got my air conditioner to blow cold, I headed north toward West Palm Beach and Jupiter. I stopped at a few of the beaches along the way to enjoy the sun, the rain, the sand, the birds, and the surf.
This is the first time I consciously tried to get a few birds in flight, known as BIFs to the pros. I need more practice to be able to track them in flight.
Century Ride
Today I bicycled 100 miles. It’s the first time I’ve done that since 1996 – 18 years ago. After being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, I had convinced myself that I would never do a century again. But over 2 years ago, I started listening to the nutritional advice of Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Dean Ornish, John McDougall, T. Colin Campbell, Jeff Novick, and others with a similar message. With their advice, I lost a ton of weight and my lab values normalized. I no longer have chest pains or shortness of breath, something I had even after earlier conventional treatment.
After my 60th birthday in October, I began to think a century ride might be possible.
From Full Frame to Micro 4/3
I could rarely bring myself to lug around my Canon full frame camera and lens. So I recently sold all my full frame gear and used the money to buy a Panasonic GX7 micro-4/3 camera and a few lenses. The picture below shows the difference in size between my old system and my new system. The difference in weight is commensurate. What a relief.
Dinner on Hollywood Beach with Janet
Janet and I dined at Sushi-Thai, right on the Hollywood Boardwalk . We watched the ocean and enjoyed the gentle breeze as the sun went down while we conversed.
Tamarac Ride with Camp Gear Life
I joined the Camp Gear Life meetup group for a bike ride this morning. The weather was gorgeous. Thanks Troy, Will, Dan, Julie, Jessica, Paul and others. Edit 2/2/2014: Video Added.
EarthSave Meal and Presentation
I enjoyed a tasty vegan meal and a presentation in Taramac by Karen J Ellis-Ritter of the Compassionate Farming Education Initiative, and met some nice people in the process. The event was sponsored by EarthSave.
Moving Stump Bike Repair
Kudos to the folks at City Bikes in Aventura for repairing my bike — with great service, good prices, and on time. The bike travels on a ladder rack on the back of the Roadtrek. While I was backing into a parking spot, a stump jumped forward to demolish the left shift and brake lever. The stump refused to admit guilt.
A Sublime Experience
At one of the Birmingham Vegans meetups, Sandra suggested I pay a visit to Sublime Vegan Restaurant in Ft Lauderdale on my road trip. So I visit their web site and I see testimonials from Paul McCartney, Alec Baldwin, Bob Barker, Pamela Anderson, Alicia Silverstone, and others. I had heard it’s a famous place, but I decided to go anyway.
That’s my waiter Ernesto in the picture, accompanied by a lady in training.
Topeekeegee Yugnee Park
After working at a Starbucks in North Miami this morning, I drove to Topeekeegee Yugnee Park in Hollywood Florida. The name is Seminole for gathering place. It’s a fun name to say too, like quinoa and edamame. The park is a peaceful place with stately trees and a nice walking trail. I took a few snapshots to share.
